Recent Blog Post: Long Game Extra: Live-tweeting the Auction
My home AL-only keeper league auction is today (12 teams, 5x5, pretty standard roto ultra rules with the addition of an in-season salary cap), and I figured I might as well live-tweet the thing. Why? For reasons!

If you want to follow along, my Twitter handle is @AntonSirius. I'm starting it out with $173 (only three teams have more, with the big stack carrying $208), and the following roster:

C: Salvador Perez $3B, Tyler Flowers $3C
1B: Eric Hosmer $17Y
SS: Eduardo Nunez $6C
CI: Chris Carter $8B
OF: David Murphy $4B, Jonny Gomes $1B
P: Yu Darvish $31B, Matt Moore $10B, Brett Anderson $2B, Felix Doubront $2B
Minors: Bubba Starling, Michael Choice, Jonathan Schoop

(Note: for long-term contracts we bump the letter designation to the end of the alphabet so that they expire at the end of their 'Z' season.)

As you can see, I'm set at catcher and don't have to worry about scarcity there, but I've got no closers so I'll have to pay full retail for a couple. Third base is also an issue, as there are only three good ones (Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre and Evan Longoria) available. All the young middle-tier guys are protected, so the drop-off in talent after the big three is STEEP. If I don't land one of them, I could be looking at a Matt Dominguez as the fallback. That's scary.

Nunez was the only really difficult choice, but with Jeter out for a bit, the other injury issues the Yankees have and me lacking steals, $6 didn't seem like much of an overpay and I could easily see him going for more at auction. The alternative would have been something like Eric Sogard at $1, and that seemed like a much bigger risk.

RotoWire Update Recommendation
Danny Duffy (P)  KC  5/24/2013
Duffy (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment Sunday with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star reports. Duffy is ready to see game action again after spending nearly a year recovering from Tommy John surgery. He figures to throw a few times in the minors given the length of his absence, but barring any setbacks, he could be pitching for the big club before the end of June.
Chris Getz (2B)  KC  5/24/2013
Batting leadoff for just the second time this season, Getz went 1-for-3 with a double, a run scored and two walks against the Angels on Thursday. Getz has started each of the Royals' last three games but since neither he nor Elliot Johnson has been particularly hot or cold, Ned Yost has been simply playing the match-ups. The Royals second base spot has been a fantasy dead zone this season and should not be used until someone starts receiving more consistent at-bats.
Salvador Perez (C)  KC  5/24/2013
Perez returned to the lineup Thursday and went 3-for-4 with one RBI against the Angels. Perez had missed the last two games with a bruised him but didn't seem to be experiencing any lingering issues either up at bat or behind the plate. While we'd like to see him hit for some more power, the fact that he's batting .320 after starting off the season cold has been helpful.
John Lamb (P)  KC  5/24/2013
Lamb had eight strikeouts in seven shutout innings on Thursday for High-A Wilmington. It was by far Lamb's best start of the season. The lefty allowed just three hits and walked only one. Lamb's days as a top prospect are behind him, on the season he has a 5.27 ERA in 41 innings.
Ervin Santana (P)  KC  5/23/2013
Santana took the loss Thursday after giving up five runs and eight hits in 7.2 innings. He struck out eight, and gave up four homers. Other than allowing those four home runs, Santana actually pitched well, not issuing a single walk. He's had trouble with the long ball in the past, but in some ways he looks like a different pitcher this season, posting a fantastic 52:9 K:BB ratio in 63 innings.
Salvador Perez (C)  KC  5/23/2013
Perez (hip) is back in the lineup Thursday, the Kansas City Star reports. After checking out fine while testing out his bruised hip by sprinting between home and first during pregame warmups, Perez will make his return to the lineup. The 23-year-old caught fire prior to suffering the injury, recording multi-hit games in three of his last six starts.
Louis Coleman (P)  KC  5/23/2013
The Royals recalled Coleman from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday. Coleman will replace the struggling Kelvin Herrera in the Royals' bullpen. He has yet to pitch for the big club this season, but he has thrown the ball well at the top level, posting a 3.25 ERA and striking out 129 batters in 110.2 innings out of the Royals' bullpen.
Kelvin Herrera (P)  KC  5/23/2013
The Orioles optioned Herrera to Triple-A Omaha on Thursday. Herrera was dominant at the beginning of the season, but he has given up an earned run in four of his six appearances this month and has allowed eight home runs on the season, so the Royals decided to send him down to work through his mechanical issues. Herrera was one of the Royals' top relievers last season, so expect him to return to the big club once he gets back on track.
Jeff Francoeur (OF)  KC  5/23/2013
Making his fourth start in the Royals' last five games, Francoeur went 1-for-3 with a triple and a run scored against the Astros on Wednesday. Francoeur has lucked out with the playing time recently with the injury to Jarrod Dyson and the lack of experience of fourth outfielder David Lough. He hasn't quite taken advantage of the situation, batting just .267 (4-for-15) with one RBI and three runs scored over these last five games, so expect to see the playing time diminish significantly once Dyson returns from the disabled list.
George Kottaras (C)  KC  5/23/2013
Kottaras went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI against the Astros on Wednesday. Kottaras was getting his second consecutive start as Salvador Perez continues to recover from a bruised hip. He is batting just .143 on the season and is there with the Royals strictly for his defensive work. Even with a starting job, he'd be a poor play in fantasy so continue to ignore him in all formats.

KC  5/31/2006
The Royals fired GM Allard Baird on Wednesday, hiring Braves assistant GM Dayton Moore to take his place.
  5/2/2006
Hitting coach Andre David was let go on May 1 after the Royals finished April last in the American League in hits, runs and home runs. He will now be the Royals' minor-league hitting instructor. Mike Barnett, the team's former minor-league hitting instructor, has been promoted to fill the major-league job.
  4/21/2006
The Royals are arguing against a recent Forbes article that said the team made $20 million profit last season, while losing over 100 games. "Once again, Forbes is not accurate in the information they are reporting on the Royals," said Mark Gorris, the club’s senior vice president for business operations, in The Kansas City Star.
