RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Ben Maxwell.
After notching three points in a two-game stint with the Jets toward the end of the regular season, Maxwell, who spent the majority of 2011-2012 playing for the club's AHL affiliate in St. John's, signed a new contract with the organization in July. In long-term keeper league or dynasty formats, the 24-year old is on the short list of players within the Winnipeg farm system to monitor. He put up 25 points in 43 AHL games last year and has played 47 games with Montreal, Anaheim and the Winnipeg/Atlanta franchise during his NHL career.
The young 22 year old Maxwell will have trouble breaking the ice in Montreal this year. He has had some brilliant campaigns in the minors but he currently is sitting fifth on the depth chart at center for the Habs. The future is still looking bright for the youngster but he will need an injury to someone on the lines ahead of him to get on the ice this year.
Ben-Max performed well in training camp and has a future in the blue, white, and red. Maxwell will start the season in Hamilton of the AHL but could see NHL duty at some point this season if he outplays Yanick Lehoux in Hamilton.
Good smarts and good speed are Maxwell's claim to fame; his pure skills don't match, though. He needs to bulk up in a serious way and he often gets down on himself during games. If he can develop more consistency and improve his offensive game, he'll be a solid pro. If not, he's long gone.
